Leaving Berlin
Jewish War Memorial in Berlin. Over 2 thousand cement blocks all different heights but all same width and length. Apparently a very controversial memorial, cost millions of euros and covers a massive amount of city space. Very eerie because when you walk through it you cannot hear anything, all the traffic noise and people are gone and it gives you a very somber and almost lonely feeling. It goes deeper/lower in the middle and the blocks higher. Difficult to describe.
Hitlers bunker was beneath the patch of grass in this picture. Only the floor of the bunker remains 10 feet down. This is where he shot himself through the mouth as the soviets approached to take over berlin. His girlfriend was in a suicide pact with him and drank cyanide. There is no memorial or markings, just recently they put up a sign because people kept coming to see it. Now there is basically a parking lot on top of it and people take their dogs here to crap on it. Yay!!
Humboldt University!!! Bet you Saskatchewanians didn't know you had one! Einstein and Karl Marx and other famous types studied here. Unfortunately, the nazi supporting students and professors burnt 20,000 banned books in the square here just before the war as part of the nazi censorship and propaganda programs.
You will all be happy to know (if you know the story) that Jodi did in fact find her precious rubber boots in the middle of Berlin!!

Few pics of part of the Berlin wall that is still standing. It is called the east side gallery because of the murals.

So tonight we are taking a sleeper train to Krakow, Poland. Should be a good time. Can't wait to sleep as we only got 3 hours last night after going a pub crawl. More on stories later. Just for now we'll add some pics from Berlin as well as new ones below for Glasgow and Amsterdam. Don't have much time left so thats all for now!
